Lisa B

I usually make the same, but with pomegrante. Sub pomegrante juice for cranberry juice co*cktail and several of the seeds in the bottom of the glass, skipping the need to rehydrate dried cranberries. Taste for whether it requires a bit of simple syrup (cranberry juice co*cktail has quite a bit of sugar) and voila! a lovely, holiday co*cktail. A sugared rim makes it extra festive.

SS

Cointreau IS triple sec. Grand Marnier is not and is sweeter. Cointreau is better for co*cktails.

Maya

Why not soak the dried cranberries in the liqueur rather than water?

Randy

@Karen: I admire your enthusiasm but that would be a waste of Cointreau. Follow the ratio in the recipe: 3 parts Ocean Spray, 2 parts Vodka and 1 part Cointreau + ice & garnishes. You'll have a nice balanced co*cktail and the bonus is you'll have a half bottle of Cointreau left for later. Cheers.

Emily

I started using 100% cranberry juice instead of cranberry juice co*cktail in my cosmos and it's so much tastier! But if you go that route, do a 1:1 mix with the vodka, and taste to see if you want to add simple syrup. And yes, do spring for the Cointreau instead of De Kuyper's triple sec or whatever your liquor store stocks on the bottom shelf. With so few ingredients, quality makes a big difference.

Karyn

For a crowd, I love the idea of preparing a batch in advance and shaking/pouring each drink with fresh ice and garnish as needed. The measurements might not be quite as precise as written, but I'm thinking a 750 ml bottle of vodka, a 32 oz bottle of juice, and most but not quite all of a bottle of Cointreau (save some back for a really nicely measured co*cktail later!) would do nicely for 12 drinks. When time to serve, shake 3/4 cup of the mix with 1/2 cup ice; strain into glass with 1TB cran!

Dr. Joe

The makers of Cointreau would disagree with SS. Triple sec may be considered a generic term for orange liqueurs but there is world of difference between Cointreau (which I generally prefer for drinks), Gran Marnier (which is perfect for orange crepes), and the much lighter and less flavorful triple sec you find in most bars and liquor stores.

Rob

If you like a gin martini (as do I), you won't like these - too sweet. I've made them for the rest of the crowd, and then simply made myself a gin martini.

bklynbug

Use Cointreau, it makes a superior co*cktail.

Steve

We found this recipe too sweet, but we’re also fans of very dry martinis (hold the mixer up in front of the vermouth bottle). However, the flavor profile is promising. I started by reversing the cranberry juice and vodka proportions and reducing the triple sec to 1 tbs. The cranberry flavor still informs this modified co*cktail.

L.C.DiMambro

This is a delicious drink indeed and the dried re-hydrated cranberries a lovely touch but it's def not a martini, which is strictly gin or vodka, a splash of vermouth and a garnish (lemon twist or olive).Vodka, Triple Sec/Cointreau and either whole cranberries or a lime wedge is a Cosmopolitan or Cosmo. The only shared traits: both are co*cktails served very cold and usually in a parfait-type stem glass. Sorry to be so picayune about the drink's name but Cranberry Martini is confusing.

PasqualeSF

I hope you would!

12 oz of beverage (for two)! Need a pretty large glass to hold all that—way more than a martini glassWe used a more straight up cranberry juice because we didn’t want to buy a humongous bottle—hence we needed the simple syrup And maybe a bit more Cointreau, and even a smidge more simple syrup (than 1 oz for two drinks)

Jul-Marie

Replace the Triple Sec with Agave Nectar. Trust me.

Antoine X

A. Not a Martini. Why call it a Martini?B. Good vodka? Really? There is no reason not to use the cheapest available when mixing with Triple Sec and cranberry!

EllenD

That is basically a cosmo with triple sec subbing for the Cointreau.

DSM

A Cape Cod (Codder) with triple sec, not a martini.

JenniferK

I love these -- delish and easy! I use unsweetened cranberry juice, and usually, with the Cointreau, I find it just sweet enough.

Jeff

I used pure cranberry juice, cointreau and a splash of lime. I didn't take the time to soak the berries. 1/2 cup grey goose, 1/2 cup cranberry and 1/4 cup cointreau. Everyone raved about these.

Andrea

These are great for Christmas, very pretty, but very sweet. I added half a lime, which helped. I misread the directions and used fresh cranberries, but it worked and looked great skewered.

Chris

This is similar to a Cosmopolitan, though with more cranberry juice. I find that adding just a bit of lime juice when mixing gives it slight acidity and tempers some of the sweetness improving it.

lola

My attempt:Cranberry juice, unsweetened 1/4 cSimple syrup 1/8 cTriple Sec 1/8 cBarr Hill vodka 1/4 cSugar wash moonshine 1/8 cFresh cranberries, lightly crushed Yum!!!

Juliet in Paris

Here's my Parisian version of this co*cktail: a flute filled with chilled crémant (crémant is a cheap version of champagne, in other words, sparkling white wine), a generous splash of Cointreau and splash of pure pomegranate juice. Throw in a small morsel of clémentine confite (candied clementine) as decoration.Happy Holidays!

Katherine

This was fine. I think I wanted something a little more tangy, this was a bit too sugary for me.

RWBock

Place the prepared cranberries in the serving glasses and place in the freezer while mixing and shaking the other ingredients.

JoAnne T

Made this for a Thanksgiving evening gathering with friends and it got rave reviews and requests for the recipe. I chilled the vodka in the freezer for several hours beforehand and chilled the cranberry juice co*cktail and Triple Sec in the refrigerator. I rehydrated the cranberries early in the day and put them in the fridge as well. That way I just had to add a few ice cubes to the co*cktail shaker. I made 2 drinks at a time.

Bob Miller

This is good. I dropped in a tablespoon of whole-berry cranberry sauce instead of the dried cranberries.
