This homemade Irish cream is a favorite among family and friends! It tastes really yummy, makes you feel all warm and toasty inside and makes great homemade gifts. I’m sharing my Homemade Irish Cream Recipe below

I make this homemade Irish cream every year. It’s something I look forward to every holiday season and my family and friends do too! In just under 5 minutes you can have your own homemade Irish cream to drink on its own or add a splash to your coffee. Plus, add a cute ribbon and you have your own homemade hostess gift.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 1/2 cups of whiskey
  • 14 oz of sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/4 cup chocolate syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract (optional – you can also use coconut extract instead, either way both are delish!)

Directions:

  • Pour all ingredients into a mixing bowl.
  • Using an immersion blender, mix together all ingredients for about 30 seconds. (You can also blend together in a blender). Just be careful not to over mix so as not to whip the cream.
  • Pour into a glass bottle or mason jar. Keep refrigerated.

    FAQs

How long will homemade Irish cream last in the refrigerator? ›

Now, you'll notice that this homemade drink contains dairy. This means that once you've made it, proper storage is key or you won't get to keep enjoying the drink for long. As a general rule of thumb, you can store your freshly made Irish cream for up to two months in the refrigerator.

What gives Irish cream its flavor? ›

Good old Irish cream comes together with an easy-to-love blend of whiskey, cream, a sweetener, and flavorings like chocolate syrup and instant coffee powder. Sure, it's not top-level mixology, but it doesn't need to be — it's hard to deny the allure of a stiff, sweet, and creamy drink.

What is Irish cream made from? ›

Irish cream is a rich liqueur made with Irish whiskey and cream. It can be served straight, on the rocks, or mixed into co*cktails. You can also use it as an ingredient in boozy, decadent desserts.

Does homemade Irish cream go bad? ›

Now, you'll notice that this homemade drink contains dairy. This means that once you've made it, proper storage is key or you won't get to keep enjoying the drink for long. As a general rule of thumb, you can store your freshly made Irish cream for up to two months in the refrigerator.

Can I drink 10 year old Baileys? ›

Does Bailey's Irish Cream go bad or expire? Generally as long as you don't subject it to temperature extremes it will last well beyond the official 2 year "best taste before" date. Over time the taste will change and the liquid tends to go a bit darker but only really noticeable if you do a side by side comparison.

Does Irish cream go bad? ›

Saint Brendan's Irish Cream – The product's shelf life is 2 years, and it should be enjoyed within 6 months after opening. The product should be stored between 32 and 77 degrees (so, refrigeration is not necessary).

What flavor goes best with Irish cream? ›

Chocolate and orange are a match made in heaven. The creaminess of chocolate and the zestiness of orange are two flavours that work. But we can improve this flavour combination with a few simple tweaks. This mixed drink with Irish cream is sure to become a fast favourite.

How much alcohol is in Irish cream? ›

It has a declared alcohol content of 17% by volume.

What is the original Irish cream? ›

This is where it all began! Original Irish Cream blends Irish whiskey and spirits with Irish dairy cream and a touch of rich chocolate and vanilla flavours. Pour over ice cream, mix into coffee, or enjoy it with ice for an originally delish Baileys moment.

Why did my homemade Baileys curdle? ›

Certain blenders (particularly the powerful ones) can curdle the mixture slightly as they 'whip' the cream. To avoid this, start your blender on a very low speed and increase slowly to medium-low. Mix until ingredients only just combined.

What can I use instead of Irish cream? ›

Heavy cream – or half & half. Half cup of whole milk and half cup of heavy whipping cream will work as well. Don't use only milk or your drink won't be creamy enough. Sweetened condensed milk.

What should you not mix with Baileys? ›

Baileys can be easily mixed with all manner of beverages to make a simple, creamy drink. The only rule is to avoid citrus or anything with a lot of citric acid, which makes it curdle. That means avoid juices and soda.

Can you mix Baileys with co*ke? ›

The carbondioxide in the cola will react with the cream in the baileys, this results in the cream solidifying in your stomach which can suffocate you in high quantities.

Can you just drink Baileys straight? ›

Irish cream liqueur is wonderfully versatile. It's so rich and full of flavour, so one of the best ways to drink it is straight or over ice, and just savour the taste of the liqueur. It's also great as an ingredient in shooters, co*cktails and warm drinks like coffee and hot chocolate. Here are a few of our favourites!

How long can you keep homemade Baileys in the fridge? ›

Transfer mixture to an airtight container or glass bottle with a tight-fitting lid and store in the refrigerator for up to 2 months.

How long does homemade Baileys last in the fridge after? ›

Pour into sterilised bottles and store unopened in the fridge for up to 2 months. Once opened, continue to keep refrigerated and consume within 1 week.

Can homemade Irish cream be frozen? ›

Keeps well in the refrigerator for about 2-4 weeks. Swing-top glass bottles are great for storing and gifting this Irish cream. Homemade Bailey's can also be kept in an airtight and leakproof jar in the freezer. Shake well after freezing.

Does homemade Irish cream need to be refrigerated? ›

How to Store this Recipe – Keep the Irish Cream in the refrigerator. It will keep for up to one week. Avoid curdling – I did some research as to ensure a life free of curdling and it's all about adding the alcohol slowly and being sure to use heavy cream.
