Watch Out! Turmeric Will Stain!

Turmeric dyesveryquickly. Take extra care, especially with your clothes. Once turmeric touches your clothing, it is difficult to get rid of the stains. If you have anemergency, try natural bleaching under the sun.

I am always very careful. Prevention is better than cure!

Here are some extra tips if you are unlucky and manage to stain your clothes.

My Favorite Variation of Ginger Turmeric Tea

Just for a twist, try adding some lemon and maple syrup. The maple syrup will add sweetness and warmth to the flavor, while the lemon will add some zing and boost yourvitamin Cintake.

For the lemon: I like to slice fresh lemons into rings and cook them directly with the tea, but if it’s easier you can juice the lemon and pour the lemon juice into the tea just before serving. Make sure you use a freshorganic, unwaxed lemon.

For the syrup: A little maple syrup willcertainlytake this tea up a notch. A light sweetness makes the tea perfect. I like maple syrup, but you could also try agave syrup, date syrup or whatever natural sweetener is hidden in your kitchen cupboard.

This tea is also delicious unsweetened – whatever your preference is, it will be a delight.

Recipe FAQ

Can I brew the tea longer? If you like ginger a bit stronger, of course. Let it brew for 10-15 minutes (do not boil).

Can I grate the ginger? If you love a very strong ginger aroma, add grated ginger instead of slices one.

How do I store the tea? Pour the tea through a sieve into a pot, let it cool and keep it in the fridge for up to 2 days. Reheat it in a small pot or enjoy it cold.

Important: Make sure you strain the tea before putting it in the fridge. It becomes very strong and bitter if the ginger, turmeric, lemon and cinnamon pieces are left in.

Can I leave out the cinnamon? If you don’t like cinnamon or don’t have it, you can leave it out.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups (960 ml) water
  • 1 lemon in slices
  • 2 inch (5 cm) turmeric in slices
  • 1 inch (2.5 cm) ginger in slices
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • a pinch cracked black pepper for the bioavailability of the turmeric
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup agave nectar, or date syrup

Instructions

  • Bring a small pot with the water to the boil.

  • Add the lemon, turmeric, ginger, and cinnamon stick. Pop on the lid and let it simmer for 5 minutes over low heat.

  • Pour the hot tea through a fine-mesh sieve and sweeten with maple syrup.

  • Enjoy your lemon ginger turmeric tea while hot!

Notes

  • Turmeric: Be careful, turmeric has a very aggressive yellow color, which is very difficult to clean if it comes in contact with your clothes!
  • Pepper: The black pepper helps with the bioavailability of the turmeric.
  • Sweetness: Adjust the sweetness to your taste.
  • Lemon: If you prefer, you can juice the lemon and add it right before serving instead of cooking the lemon slices with the tea. I love to cook it with the tea as the lemon rind (make sure it’s an organic lemon) adds some extra flavor!

Recipe Variation with ground spices (if you don’t have fresh ingredients at hand):

  • 1 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • ¼ tsp ground cinnamon
  • The rest of the recipe remains the same!
