Sangamon County Sheriff Information
The Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for protecting the life and property of all individuals working, living, and visiting the county. The department is comprised of several divisions which are Operations, Administration, Corrections, and Records. Within the Operations Division, there are several smaller divisions and units such as Patrol, Investigations, Court Security, the Tactical Negotiation Team, the Auxiliary Unit, and the K-9 Unit. The Records Division is comprised of the Records Section and the Civil Process Section. The head of the SCSO is Sheriff Jack Campbell who serves as the Chief Public Safety Officer in the county. The second-in-command is Chief Deputy Cheryllynn Williams who oversees the day-to-day operations of the entire agency, She answers directly to the Sheriff.

Sangamon County Jail Information
The Sangamon County Detention Facility is a state-of-the-art facility that houses individuals awaiting bond or trial, those who have been sentenced to serve time, and those being held for other law enforcement agencies such as federal inmates. The jail can house up to 314 inmates. It has an average daily population of 350 inmates. The facility is under the supervision of Jail Superintendent Larry Beck and employs a staff of 72 Correctional Officers as well as 27 Control Room Operators. Inmates at the Sangamon County Detention Facility are allowed visitation. Only individuals on the inmate’s visitation list are allowed to visit. Visits need to be scheduled at least 12 hours in advance through the ICSolutions website. Only 3 visitors are allowed per visit.
The Sangamon County Detention Facility maintains a list of all individuals currently detained in the facility. The list includes an inmate’s photo, complete name, booking number and date, sex, date of birth, type of crime, reason for incarceration, classification, cell block, and arresting officer.

The Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office is currently accepting applications for the position of Deputy Sheriff. The requirements for Deputy Sheriff includes a minimum of 21 years old, a US citizen, possess at least a bachelor’s degree, and must be a Sangamon County resident within 6 months of employment. All applicants will undergo entry level written testing, a physical fitness test, a complete physical examination, a background investigation, and a drug test.
