Riseberg of Boston, a telecommunications executive who helped develop advanced telephone and networking services. Mr. Riseberg died Thursday, apparently of a heart attack, while working in New York City.

He was 57. Born in Malden, Mr. Riseberg attended Malden High School. He graduated from Harvard College in 1964 and received a doctorate from Johns Hopkins University in 1968. Upon completion of his doctoral studies, Mr.

Riseberg conducted research at Hebrew University in Jerusalem and at Bell Laboratories in New Jersey, after which time he worked at Texas Instruments in Dallas. In 1972, he joined GTE Corp. and worked there for 28 years. While at GTE, he directed research in laser and other optical telecommunication technology. After holding the position of director of the GTE Labs Research Facility in Waltham, he became vice president of technology planning at GTE Corp.

headquarters in Stamford, Conn. When GTE merged with Bell Atlantic to become Verizon, he played a key role in managing technology transition for the new company. Last year, Mr. Riseberg joined KMC Telecom of Bedminster, N.J., as chief technology officer and executive vice president. His research led to the publication of numerous technical papers and patents, including pioneering work in digital subscriber line, or DSL, a form of high-speed Internet access.

A resident of Sudbury for more than 20 years, Mr. Riseberg was active on the Sudbury Conservation Commission and at Temple Beth-El, where he was a lay leader of services and involved himself in various temple committees. In recent years, Mr. Riseberg and his wife maintained homes in Boston, New York City, and South Dartmouth. In his free time, Mr.

Holohan of Framingham and Harwich Port, a longtime employee of New England Telephone, died Saturday following a brief illness. He was 78. Mr. Holohan was born in Boston and raised in Dorchester, graduating from Mechanic Arts High School in 1940. Mr.

Holohan then joined the Army as a sergeant with the 100th Signal Company, serving in Europe during World War II. Upon his discharge, he began his career as an installer with New England Telephone. He eventually became staff manager of internal auditing. He retired in 1988 after 42 years. Mr.

Holohan was active in St. Bridget's parish in Framingham. He was a member of the choir, a past president of the Holy Name Society, a parish council member, and a member of a renovation feasibility committee. He leaves two daughters, Anne Marie of Framingham and Kathleen Smith of Medfield; a sister, Genevieve O'Reilly of Longmeadow; and a grandson. A funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m.
