Having my breasts removed even an issue I just wanted to be here to see my little girls go to prom and go on their first date and get Davis survived but many others are not so lucky The second annual Hands On Spa Day conducted by The Total Works Hair and Body Salon and the Baptist Health System Foundation is a day to celebrate the courage of those who survived and the lives of those who did not On Oct 4 more than 55 area breast cancer survivors from East Tennessee who have been sponsored by family and friends will get to enjoy a variety of spa services from the Total Works staff thought of Hands On It really is hands-on because prevention means self-breast exams You have to be hands-on for Participants can choose one hairmakeup service and one spa service such as a massage facial reflexology manicure pedicure or a makeup consultatioa Survivors will be fed by Catering of Oak Ridge and entertained by live music from Matt Stillwell Steve Scarborough and Sheila Gordon Studio 193 is going to take black-and-white photographs to capture the faces of survivors Wine champagne and door prizes will also be given away Not only is this a day well-earned by the survivors but the proceeds go toward a cause near and dear to their hearts the Kim Rowden Breast Cancer Memorial Fund doctor Kamilia Kosiowski established the fund in 1998 after Rowden died in 1994 at the age of 28 was diagnosed at age 25 in said Marilyn Rowden mother breast cancer was treated and then recurred in her bones She had a special bone marrow transplant at Duke which gave us another year and a half to be with her She had a deep faith and never complained The thing I most admired about her was she never gave in to peer pressure and never said a bad thing about anyone She touched a lot of fives After she died her doctor saw a need for a fund (to benefit) women without the financial resources to be screened and treated and to fund advanced research into the Davis attended this event last year and said the camaraderie helped her to deal with her illness people who give their services do it for free donating their whole day to pamper Davis said very caring The people who put this together start
