The Hubbard County DFL will be picking up trash along State Hwy. 34, east of Park Rapids, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 11. Meet at 189th Avenue, across from Up North Power and Sports. In case of inclement weather, the backup date will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 18.

Second Saturday STEM builds with Keva Planks at 11 a.m. at the Park Rapids Area Library. Keva Planks are engineered to be exactly the same size, allowing participants to build extremely stable structures with them. All ages are welcome. Anyone 8 years or younger must be accompanied.

Join printmaker Sonja Larsen to learn about creating fine prints from nature from 1 to 3 p.m. Published printmaker Larsen will start by giving a tour of her current exhibit, “Creating Art from Nature,” in Watermark’s Lakeview Gallery, followed by a demo of making nature prints from local plants. There is no fee to participate and all ages are welcome.

The Nevis High School prom begins with a grand march at 6:30 p.m. in Tiger Arena.

SUNDAY, MAY 12

The Park Rapids Community Band will give a spring concert at 3 p.m. in the auditorium at Park Rapids Area High School, directed by Adam Tervola-Hultberg. Musicians from the surrounding area will perform a suite of old American Dances, highlights from “Les Miserables,” “Alleluia!” and “Laudamus Te,” “The Klaxon,” “Hymn to the Fallen,” “Goin’ Home,” “Overture in C,” marches and patriotic numbers. There is no admission charge.

MONDAY, MAY 13

A three-day blood drive will begin from 12:30 to 6 p.m. at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Park Rapids. Sponsored by the American Legion Post 212 Auxiliary, the event is seeking 169 volunteer donors and welcomes first-time donors. For more information, call 1-800-289-4923.

The Menahga School concert choir will perform at 7 p.m.

Hubbard County DFL members are invited to their monthly meeting, with discussion of trending topics at 6 p.m. at the Event Room in Park Rapids and a business meeting at 7 p.m. Contact hubbardcountydfl@gmail.com for information.

Hubbard County Republicans meet at 7 p.m. at Abide Vineyard Church, 17765 State Hwy. 34, east of Park Rapids. Social hour begins at 6:30 p.m.

The Century Middle School band will perform a concert at 7 p.m. in the Century cafetorium.

TUESDAY, MAY 14

Menahga Elementary School will hold a track and field day for grades 3-5.

Join local leaders and experts for a coffee talk from 10 to 11 a.m. at Northwoods Bank in Park Rapids. The topic is “Mental Wellbeing.” There will be a short presentation followed by questions and conversation, jointly organized by Hubbard in Prevention, CHI St. Joseph’s Health Community Health, Stellher Human Services, Family Safety Network, Kinship of Park Rapids and Park Rapids Area Schools. WEDNESDAY, MAY 15

The Skally Line Regional Spring Tour stops at the Event Room from 6 to 7 p.m., presented by the Kitchigami Regional Library System. Named after the old rail line connecting Duluth with the Twin Cities, the Skally Line steams around the curves of early American music, featuring string band blues, Appalachian ballads, fiddle tunes, early country and bluegrass and Tin Pan Alley music. Along the way, musicians Fred Keller and Bill Cagley tell forgotten stories about old Minnesota, play original music rooted in that history and create an all-around rip-roaring experience. THURSDAY, MAY 16

The Beltrami County DFL Party is having a “DFL Pizza and Programs” session from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at their office at 1510 Bemidji Ave. N. in Bemidji. The public is invited to attend for discussion and dialogue with community organizers and leaders. This month’s session features Michelle Witte, executive director of the League of Women Voters of Minnesota, describing how the League empowers voters and defends democracy.

Kindergarten graduation ceremonies are at 12:45 and 1:45 p.m. at Century School in Park Rapids.

It’s open mic night at the Armory Arts and Events Center, starting at 7 p.m. Come and enjoy local talent or take the stage. Admission is free. Call 218-237-3722 to sign up for a time slot.

FRIDAY, MAY 17

A reception for the Nevis student art show will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Armory Arts & Events Center in Park Rapids.

A replica of sculpture “Not Afraid to Look” is making its new home at the Giiwedinong Treaty Rights and Culture Museum in Park Rapids. Founding members and Water Protector communities will have an opportunity to meet the sculptor, Charles Rencountre, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the museum.
