About Pool water delivery

Every year pool owners turn to M.A. Haskell & Son Trucking for pool filling services and bulk water delivery. If you have never owned a pool before, this can be a confusing process. Should you use your tap water? Can you have water delivered in bulk? The idea of paying for thousands of gallons of water can feel overwhelming, leaving you with questions about cost. Is your plumbing and water supply capable of handling that much? See our FAQ below for answers to the most popular questions our customers have about bulk water delivery costs and benefits.

Filling A New Pool

If you’ve just had a new pool installed, the fastest and safest way to get it filled with clean water is with bulk water delivery from our water trucks.

Re-Filling Your Pool In The Spring / Summer

It’s very common in the State of Maine to partially or fully drain your pool for the off-season or winter. Vinyl lined pools are typically drained to maintain water just above the shallow end bottom. Some concrete, tile, or fiberglass pools are completely drained. In either situation, the fastest and safest way to get your pool refilled is with bulk water delivery from our water trucks.

Draining And Re-Filling An Untreatable Pool

It’s possible that your pool has become so dirty that it doesn’t make sense to treat and filter the algae and debris out with your own equipment. Pools that have turned dark green or brown may have so much algae that it will take weeks of filtering and heavy chemical usage to bring it to a safe swimmable level. During this time, your filter may become completely clogged several times, and you may spend hundreds of dollars in chemicals. Meanwhile, you’ll have an unsightly pool you cannot use.

Draining your old contaminated water using your pool pump’s drain function can make way for a bulk refill of fresh clean water. This new water is much easier to chemically balance and maintain, saving you money on chemicals, and reducing the total chemical load in the pool. This may also save you a lot on filter cartridges or diatomaceous earth (depending on your filter type).

We’ll be happy to answer any questions you have about water hauling and bulk water delivery. Contact us with any additional questions or to get a quote.

Q: DO YOU FILL INTEX BRAND OR SIMILAR ABOVE GROUND POOLS? DO YOU FILL BLOW UP TOP POOLS?

A: Yes we do! We ask that you make sure the pool is level before we arrive, we cannot fill pools that are not within 2” of being level. Here are a couple links to help you with your pool set-up. ownthepool.com Here is a video Youtube how to level the ground for your pool

q: How many gallons will I need for my pool?

A: Calculate the number of gallons you’ll need by using this table (for above ground, and standard in-ground pools).

q: Where does your Bulk water come from?

A: Typically, we pull water from the closest, clean water source. We can also, for an additional fee from the municipality, get water from local water districts.

Q: How many gallons do your trucks hold?

A: M.A. Haskell & Sons Trucking uses 8,000 gallon trailers to haul water from local, approved water sources to your home or business.

Q: How long are your water truck hoses? How close does the water truck need to be?

A: The water truck hoses are 350 feet. The spot where the truck can park on your property can be anywhere within a 350 foot radius of the pool or filling site. Additional lengths can be met if requested. Please keep in mind we deliver with large 22 wheel tractor trailers, think of gas station delivery trucks. We use Google Maps to measure distances for questionable deliveries, you can too!

Q: How much does bulk water delivery cost?

A: Our minimum is $320 for our local service area but we cover most of Maine. The price changes based on location. Please contact us for a quote.

Q: why shouldn’t I just fill my pool from my tap?

A1: If you have a well: You must ensure your well pump and control unit are up to the task of providing 10,000 to over 30,000 gallons of water (depending on the size of your pool). These devices typically pump water for short periods of time before having a chance to cool off. A sudden large increase in continuous pumping can cause these units to fail. Your well may not have the capacity or fill rate to support your needs. In these cases, bulk water delivery can be a safer and more affordable option. Just remember, we can fill your pool but we can’t fill your well

A2: If you have city water: Depending on your location, filling your pool with city water may be expensive and slow. It is wise to supervise the filling process. Depending on your garden hose’s water pressure, filling could take several days.

  • City water can be expensive, and you may pass a threshold that increases your cost per gallon. Water charges can vary depending on your Maine city or town.

  • Many Maine cities and towns also charge wastewater or sewer water fees, even if this water is not entering the municipal wastewater system.

  • You may need a separate garden hose meter to be installed to avoid these extra wastewater fees, and you must ensure your municipality is using it when calculating your water bill.

In either of these situations, bulk water delivery from a water truck / tanker can be the safe, convenient, and affordable option for filling your pool. Our service removes the worry that your plumbing might fail, or that you’ll incur an expensive and unexpected charge, either from your city’s water department or from well equipment failure.

Q: What are the minimum and maximum number of gallons for bulk water delivery?

A: There is no minimum or maximum number of gallons we can deliver. Please contact us for a quote.

Q: How fast can water be delivered?

A: We aim to accommodate bulk water deliveries within a day or two. Please note summer gets busy! Scheduling a delivery ahead of time ensures you have water delivered when you want it. We recommend scheduling a week in advance.

Q: How long does it take the water truck to fill my pool?

A: A full water truck load, which is 8,000 gallons, takes 25 minutes to unload. We’ll have your pool filled in no time!

Q: Can chlorinated water be delivered?

A: Yes

Q: can your bulk water be used in a chlorinated pool?

A: Yes

Q: Can salt water be delivered?

A: Yes, we typically do not fill salt water pools as it’s easier for the customer to add the correct amount of salt when we fill. Typically ocean water is delivered to lobster and fish markets only.

Q: Can your bulk water be used in a salt water pool?

A: Yes - check with your pool maintenance company on the salinity needs of your pool.

Q: Can water be delivered for a pond or landscaping?

A: Yes

Q: Is your bulk water safe for drinking? Is it potable?

A: Potable water service is available upon request. Additional fees may apply as water is retrieved from a municipality's water district.

Q: Are there different grades / qualities / types of bulk water you can haul?

A: Haskell Trucking can haul potable (drinking) and non-potable water.
